All pictures drawn by the internees and all photographs show a big tree in the front courtyard of the Schloss. That is why we have chosen the tree.

Barbed wire is wrapped around the tree, thus imprisoning the tree and its leaves, like the barbed wire fence separating the prisoners of war and the families from Jersey from the outside world. The tree and the leaves are engraved, but there are also some holes between the branches cut into the plate. The barbed wire is real and goes around the tree through the holes. The leaves are arranged in groups, as the families from Jersey were also different groups who lived together in the Schloss. But the leaves also symbolize the hope of a new life. The poem by Daniel Austin and the necessary texts are engraved on the side wings.
